Borough of Midland

Prologue

In 1785, the United States Government negotiated a treaty with the Delaware, Wyandot, Chippewa and Ottawa Indian Nations to gain possession of the lands north of the Ohio River, opening up settlement of the Ohio River Valley.  The area along the north bank of the Ohio where Midland now exists was part of that agreement.  Future land sales would be surveyed. The new areas were to be divided into townships of 6 sq. mi., 36 lots of 640 acres each.
