--ATTENTION-- Midland High School Class of 1959 50 year class reunion will be held on Sunday July 5, 2009 at the St. Anthony Club in Midland. Other details will follow soon.
I was saddened to read within this blog that Miss Milanovich and Mrs. Shovlin passed away. Miss Milanovich was always in fashion and Heidi Klum could have used her as a consultant. I just loved her. Mrs. Shovlin - I still have a business book that she recommended with her handwriting on it and although I am now a computer specialist believe she gave me an excellent start in my field. She made me the professional I am today. And Mrs. Needs (forgive me as you do not start a sentence with 'and')I always will remember your kindness as you went beyond the call of duty as teacher. I think of you as I work within my school district and really enjoy the kids as you enjoyed us. God Bless.

I really like this website. So I would like to keep in touch with my classmates 1978. My email address is sweetjesus49@yahoo.com
Thank you, Angela, for your kind comments. Teachers like to know thay are remembered, especially in a kind way. Losing two of my good friends,Marie Milanovich and Dorothy Shovlin, saddened me I know they would have appreciated your kind words also.
Thank you, Angie, for your kind comments. Teachers like to know they are remembered. Losing both Marie Milanovich and Dorothy Shovlin saddened me as I lost two good friends. I'm sure they would really have appreciated your comments also.
First and foremost, Hello to the class of 1978. It is so good to see many names here that I remember well of all ages. It saddened me to find out this way, that my Godmother, Dorothy Shovlin had passed away. I will miss her. A special hello to Jan Needs. God bless you and thank you for your special teaching efforts. I too can recite Miss Milanovich's latin form of Mica Mica Parva Stella (Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star). I didn't have her for Latin, my sister Karen Anderson Monaco did and I helped her memorize it. My sister was the class of 76, I believe my brother, Dennis Seymour was the class of '73, my father (well, actually step father, but a true 'pop'), Charlie Whittacre graduated I believe in the class of '45. So to all those people from all the various years.....I say "God Bless You, and Hello." Anyone is free to email me at my email address at oheavensspirit@yahoo.com. Will look forward to a hello. I am thankful for this site. Angela Anderson Harding.
TA, I don't know how to get in touch with you any other way. talked on the 4th and you were going to e-mail me B.H. address and phone number. Hope to hear from you.
Congratulations are in order for three Midland notables. Norm Van Lier was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame in June for his contributions to high school basketball and his accomplishments with the greatest team in the history of PA hoops...Midland '65. Also inducted was former Midland Head Basketball Coach Ed McClusky, who made his claim to greatness later in his career at Farrell. Van Lier and McClusky were inducted into the WPIAL's second annualy HOF class. And, congratulations to former Midland Superintendent of Schools and the founder of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, the Buckeye On-Line School for Success, the National Network of Digital Schools, and the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School which are all Midland-based...Dr. Nick Trombetta, who was inducted into the 10th class of the Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame. The East Liverpool-based HOF salutes the accomplishments of a wide variety of community leaders who contribute so much to the betterment of life in the tri-state area. Congratulations to these three all-time Midland greats!
Hello Midland! You have been through tough times and you are still standing and moving forward. Congratulations and stay strong like your history.
I am a student at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, class of 2009. I just wanted to say I really enjoy learning about the history of what is now my school. I find it really interesting to learn about what was here before I came, the stories and legacy that I am glad to carry on being part of the next generation of students to graduate from high school in Midland, in the same place you alumni did 20 plus years ago. I think its so important that my peers know the history of how LPPACS, LPPAC, and PA Cyber came to be in the place where Lincoln High once was. Thank you giving me this great resource!
The Midland 4th of July Celebation will stretch all the way to the 5th this year. The annual carnival in Lincoln Park will arrive on July 1st with food booths, games, and rides and remain through the 5th. The popular car cruise will be held on Thursday - July 3rd. The Midland Parade will be held on Saturday - July 5th this year - so that even more people can watch and take part. Then, on Sunday July 6th, it's a Doo Wop Oldies Show at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center featuring The Drifters and The Marcells. Tickets are available at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center Box Office by calling 724-643-9004, and on-line at lppac.org.
I wanted to comment on how amazing your site is! This was a huge, emotional walk down memory lane for me. I was born and raised Midland. My parents are Nick Selepec and Christine Cracchiolo. Unfortunately, I moved away in 1980 and have only been back a couple of times to visit, but what a wonderful place to be from. Thank you for making it possible to relive my childhood! Nicole Selepec Daniels Arvada, Colorado
The Midland 4th of July Parade will actually take place on July 5th this year since the 5th falls on a Saturday. That will make it much easier for those who travel long distances to get to be a part of the festivities. The parade will start in Spring Lane at 10 am and progress along Midland Avenue to 11th Street. There, it will wind its way to Ohio Avenue past the reviewing stand where Ohio meets 9th Street and Virginia Avenue. There will be activities in the park throughout the weekend, featuring food, music, games, and rides. On Sunday, July 6th, The Drifters and The Marcels will be the featured performers in FROM DOO WOP TO POP at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the show are on sale at the box office, on-line at lppac-dot-org, or by calling 724-643-9004.
Actually it was 1964, must be getting old.
I have heard that Midland's celebration will be held on the 5th, any help out there.

HI! Just found your site! Love it! I went to First Street School first and second grade, went to Fairview till 9th gtrade then back to Midland! Midland high School holds so many great memories to me. Going to Western Beaver was great but Midland is still holding a special place in my heart and always will. Daddy worked in the mill, we bought in Midland and I went to Macedo Beauty school there, and even worked at Clover Farm a few years! Midland is always a big part of home. Hated to see the high school destroyed, so sad. billnrosiebud@aol.com

I can't thank you enough for your kindness His passing will never ever get,but it is comforting to know people care. It is with great sadness for me to inform the MHS alumni that Frank Tepovich '64 was killed in a motorcycle accident in FL on Saturday, March 1, 2008. I hope his mom, sister and extended family know that my thoughts are with them. Frank touched a lot of lives. He'll be missed. www.firstcoastnews.com has an article on the accident.
Feb 26,08 I would like to thank my brother Donald Grim to place an annoucment here about our father passing away on Dec.22,07 and to say this is a nice site to remember our days spent at MHS and in Midland growing up midland had at one time alot to offer and now it is on a turn around hopefully back to the way it was. Best wishes Merel Grim
I have photos of the fourth of July parade 2007. Also have many from Lincoln Park celebrations that day. It would be easier to put them on a cd or dvd for you to load. Not sure if you have my current e-mail, dhgrimjr@hotmail.com, let me know how you would like them sent. On a sad note, would like to mention the passing of my step day, Emilio Joseph <Joe> Palanza on December 22, 2007. Dad suffered a severe stroke on Dec. 9th, from which he never recovered. Many will remember my dad as Pizza Joe, and from when he worked at the Post Office. Althought he didn't attend MHS, he was a life long resident of Midland, and he is greatly missed.
My dad Raymond Russell would have graduated from Lincoln around 48-50. I'm not sure exactly when but I think he would have liked having the opportunity to reconnect with fellow classmates. He would be impressed. Dad passed away in July of 1991.
So sad to hear of the passing of Mrs. Shovlin. She was my favorite teacher as well as an excellent educator and friend.
MIdland High School was a big deal for an old country boy who had to walk over the hill from Mystery Mile Road to go swimming. Tht pink 1959 Ford for drivers ed ( roflmao ). We are sorry to announce the passing of one of Lincoln High's most beloved teachers, Dorothy Jack Tritschler Shovlin. Dorothy Jack Shovlin, 81, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008, in her home following a lengthy illness. Born May 14, 1926, in New Brighton, she was a daughter of the late Fred S. and Rose H. Kralic Jack. A graduate of New Brighton High School and Grove City College, Dottie had been the Assistant Dean of Women at Grove City College. She taught business education in the Midland School District for 36 years. She also helped her mother and father run the former Fritz's Market, New Brighton. Dottie was a member and past secretary of Saint Blaise Parish Family, past executive secretary of the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce, and former member of the Carnegie Free Library Midland Board of Directors. Dottie was instrumental in Alanon, helping many people through trying times. She retired as hostess from the D.L. Williams Funeral Home when her heal th began to fail.
I agree that the photo is of the Library. What I do not understand is how the photo could be identified as the Methodist Church, as there are no titles for any of the pics in #29?????????
Yep, it is the library. I recall being there once or twice myself (LOL).
Robert Vranes is correct in his assumpfion that the photo is rhe Carnegie Free Library in the Number 29 listings.
In Photo Galleries, Number 29, from 2006, there is a photo of a stone building labeled Methodist Church. I believe that photo is the Carnegie Free Library where I spent a good part of my youth. The Methodist Church is on the corner just below the library. It was made from a darker stone and had an entry in the corner of the building, not in the center. Please confirm.
It's been a while since being on the site. For the class of 75 my younger brother, Richard "Mark" Kaiser, passed away on Aug 28. I appreciate all of the thoughts that were sent our way. Thank you.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

Well, though not an alumnus, I was born in Midland, January 5, 1946. My grandfather and grandmother, Ed and Hazel Newman, had a general store, later owned by my aunt and uncle, Maurice and Esther Newman. My mother Jeanette Newman was sister to Maurice, Sanford and Beverly. I'm now in Toms River, NJ, planning a trip back to Midland.

Hey, I was trying add my info to the Alumni roster, but the site was having trouble. Will try later. Cyndi percdr@msn.com
I just found this site a couple days ago. I have been gone, except for a few family visits and 1 class reunion in 1975, since August of 1960. Navy took me to California, where I stayed for nearly 30 years. Then to Washington State for 11 years. Now living in Michigan and about to retire to Arizona or Nevada. Would like to know if there is planned a 50 year reunion planned for class of 1960??? Its a great life I have had and there is more to come. Gene Welch GW618@aol.com

The Class of 1930 list is not available, but I want to report that one very precious member of that class is now with the Lord. He was my husband, Robert H. Needs, and the father of Larry, Class of 1958, David, Class of 1963, and Bob, Class of 1968. Our family connection to Lincoln High School has been a long one.I was a substitute teacher there for 16 years before I joined the staff as a teacher of English in 1958 until 1982. The Class of 1930 was the first one to have four years in the new Lincoln High School.

Someone recently told me that Mr.Ed Olkowlski passed away some time ago. I was not aware of that and I wondered if anyone knew for sure? He was such a good teacher and a kind man. I wonder too if anyone knows anything about Mr Tranquillo? He was an interesting Chemistry teacher!...Never forget Ralph sniffing that amonia and passing out!!

Dear Mr. mmuga class of '78. I know you must be very proud of your continued mis-use of this guestbook. The banalities of your entries show you to be a highly moronic, childish, and lonely person. If you have nothing better to do with your time than to write these rediculous comments you might want to think about 'getting a life'. Also you are maligning the class of 78 by your antics. Please cease and desist. I am tired of deleting your comments.
Will there be a parade or fireworks this year in Midland?

I would like to finish up the class data section of the website. I need info ( yearbooks, photos etc ) for the years prior to 1945 and also for the years 47, 48, 63, 64, and all years from 67 to the last graduating class. Any material sent to me will be returned intact. Contact me at pmn37@hotmail.com Thanks.
Good to see this website is still going. I live out of state now, out west. I was raised in Midland and visit every year. So sad to see it looking so shabby in places. Very sad to see the High School gone. "Home of the Leopards!" I too hope and pray Midland will rise from the ashes and be the wonderful place I remember growing up in once again. Make it happen, only you can! Always a "Mitlander"
Does anyone know if Nick Prodonovich is still alive? thought I saw on website that he was killed in a wreck. If so, he'd be the first from our class to pass away, right? Anyone know if anyone else from our class is gone? And does anyone know what happened to Mike Doyle from class of 67? I see in alumni list that he's gone but I never heard anything about it. I have new e-mail address now which has been updated on this site. Where's everyone from class of 72?
David and Donald Willey................so sorry to hear of the passing of your father, Donald Willey, Sr. Please accept my deepest sympathies to you and your families.

Thank you to all who made the centennial such a wonderful event. My entire family from Oklahoma City spent a week with our family and friends and what wonderful memories we all have. Thanks to our class reunion committee, I really enjoyed the evening. Looking forward to hearing from my classmates. It was truly hard to leave Midland.

Very impressed with the web site! So sorry I had to miss the celebration this July 4th. My husband and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and I would love to hear from any of my classmates and friends. Our address is-- 3536 MacPherson Place Cincinnati, Ohio 45245 (513)752-0846
I had a great, great timeonthe 4th. Was fortunate enough to see friends for the first time in 40 years. Look forward to hearing from you. E-mail address is barrettwebb@aol.com
It is so great to have this website. There is no place like home and the people from Midland especially for those of us that have moved away.
We spent 3 nice days in Midland over the 4th and it was great seeing old friends and class mates especially those we hadn"t seen for 50 yrs. The new LPPA"S Building is nice (no air in the 40"s room) but it will never replace good old Lincoln High. What good times we had. We realy did grow up at the right time and the right place. Thanks for the memories.
I was unable to attend the 4th at home this year. I would like to purchase the 100 year anniversity book that is for sale. I will be in Midland the last week of July, and if there is anywhere to purchase it please let me know. I have also asked for my father's name to added to the deceased list for his class of 38,his name is John Klipich. Paul I haven't recieved any of your e-mails lately. Thank you Jackie purplemama4u@yahoo.com
I think those who worked on this site have done a great job. This past alumni day in the park on July 2 2006 was a time to remember. My feelings as well as others I've talked to it would be great to have and alumni weekend every year around the same time since a lot of alumni return for the 4th anyway know of other towns and communities that do this. Those I seen during this past celebration there were a number of people that felt the same. Let me know if there's anything that I can do to help make this a reality. Keep up the good job of having this info.

This website is a wonderful "link" to so many memories and people who shared them. Thanks for all the hard work that goes into making it a success and connecting our RODIS family together. I'm looking forward to getting home for the big celebration. It will be a great time to see old friends, and family that geography and time has seperated. If any of my classmates or friends read this, let me know if you will be in town from July 1 to July 4 at r4a5y@aol.com. It would be great to see you.
Mus, If you see this, we need to touch base. Drop me a line at sfs982000@yahoo.com.
1. hello
THIS INFORMATION ABOUT MIDLAND WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND BROUGHT BACK GOOD MEMORIES.
To Midland, My man Bill Lib wrote back within the same day that I responded. Hometown, this is what I am talking about, remembering your homies and reaching them. To only the ones who remember, TEP! Later-------------------------------------------MUS
I agree 100% with what Mark Musser said. I may no longer live in Midland, but it will always be my home. Mus, you definetely hit the nail on the head. Fishman
To My Fellow Mitlanders, I want to say that this site is great. It is exciting to see the new performing arts building built on what I call sacred land of the great Lincoln High School. Although I graduated from Beaver Area High School, I always considered myself a LEOPARD, and one at heart. I shared this with our new mayor, Angela Poobie Adkins who I have known since I was a little boy. Midland can rise again. Stop maximizing what needs to be minimized and start minimizing what is being maximized, another words, stop thinking negative. We need our highschool back because our kids should not have to attend out of state and out of town schools. Get back to basics of Midland pride, taking care of one another and getting involved in the community and stop waiting for someone else to get r done. To my hometown, I love you. You can take the man out of Midland but you will not take the love for Midland out of this man. God bless and stay the course and don't look back at the past accept to learn from it. -Mus of 110 5th Street

I really don't think this forum is the proper place to rehash the history of Eastern Europe. But in the hope of 'Nipping it in the Bud' as Barney Fife would say, here goes. The kingdoms of the Balkans changed masters more often than Liz Taylor changed husbands. At one time or another the Balkan Nations were under the thumb of the Romans, Ottomans, Byzantines, Slavs, Austrians, etc. Anywho, at the conclusion of WWI the Austo-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires were disolved and shortly thereafter the Kingdoms of Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Herzogovina, Croatia and Slovenia were combined into one political entity that was named Yugoslavia. Now, having said this, I am sure there will be others who for one reason or another would like to weigh in with their version of what happened, or didn't happen, from the time of Alexander The Great of Macedonia to the present mess in the Balkans. But since none of us have first hand observable knowledge of the events which formed this place we now call the Balkans, I suggest we let it rest. I for one would give the man credit for knowing what country he was born in! See you all at the centennial celebration.

Remember the White Front Dairy on 7th Street? Well, all eleven of us kids attended Lincoln High School! First was Daisy, then Mitchell, Dorothy, Lillian, Joseph, Bernard, Eleanor, Julie(me),Daniel(Butch), Amanda, and M. Anita. Our father Joseph D. Zlatovich attended LHS night school to learn English. He immigrated to U.S.A. in 1914 from Yugoslavia and was naturalized in 1922. He was on the Midland School Board in the early 1940's. He bought the Dairy in 1926. It's great to hear from many of our older & younger LHS classmates. Julie Zlatovich McDanel -jmcdanel@nctv.com

This is a fantastic web site! My mom and dad grew up in Midland (Louis Ulizio and Marion Jergons). I love to sit and look at what their life was like. I have fond memory of my grandparents on Spring Lane and the 4th of July parade. What a great part of history! I'll carry my memories of that wonderful town forever! Thanks to all who have worked to make this a great site to visit. Janine Ulizio Dailey Salt Lake City Utah
Anyone out there know where Mr Simpkins might be? He was our Biology Teacher after MrHoppa(78-82) He was such a nice guy, he did alot of extra stuff for us,(anyone remember the haunted house in the auditorium, or the weekend field trips to DC and Philly??) I don't know where he went when Midland lost its High School. We were really lucky at MHS to have so many good teachers who cared about the students and the community. I hope they all know how much they were appreciated and respected.
I like it alot theres a lot of good scenes.I enjoy the pictures and whoever sees it they should be amazed.

Thank you so much for this brilliant website. My father, Aloysius P. Walsh, taught there from 1921 to 1922. He then received an appointment to teach at St. Thomas College in Scranton PA, now the University of Scranton. He met my mother on the Steubenville, East Liverpool & Beaver Valley Traction Co. interurban trolley, when a cow was stuck on the tracks. After his appointment in Scranton, his native home, they married and moved there. Imagine my delight when I found your website with its remarkable records and fine pictures. I can't thank you enough. Hi Paul Please add my sister, Marian Piggott Porter to the deceased list for the class of 1947. Thanks.
I would like to hear from ANY of my class mates or other Midlanders. My E-mail address is epoet663@sbcglobal.net. I plan to attend the Centinnial this summer...health willing.
I now live in Michigan but, sometimes I get home sick for Midland. I ran across this web site and I think its great. My dad grew up in Midland and its wonderful to see what it was like back then. My family still lives there. Midland has changed so much over the years and its really nice to remember what a nice place it was, and could be once again.
Don't feel bad Pat. 1979 has a bad showing on here as well. We weren't part of the 2004 reunion because we just missed the graduation cut-off date. We we, however, asked to be a part of the 1980-84 class reunion. And only 6 of us showed up. Are you a member of classmates.com? I know they get a lot of their information off of that website. Kinda looking forward to the all-school reunion this summer. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Please add me to the list of alumni. My e- mail is V12727@aol.com Anyone of class 45 please let me know of any re-unions
Attended Lincoln in 9th grade. Then went to Western Beaver and graduated from Beaver. I also attended Midland schools K-2nd grade.

the class of 1978 WAS apart of a multi class reunion in 2004...possible your address was not available for your invite. we do need a representative to help with plans for next reunion in 2009..I can be reached at joaniecollins@msn.com
Yes, the class of 1978 is unrepresented or should I say under represented on this site. That the class of 1978 is actually on this site is a miracle. It is not because of the efforts of someone from the class of 1978. I apologize if one of my classmates did take the efforts to represent us, but we have not gotten together for any reunions and such either. Or maybe I just was not invited (LOL). That could be more the case. Well I hope to get back to Midland in July and maybe a few of us can come up with some ideas and leadership to get something together.
Hello, My e-mail address isajpantoni@zoominternet.net. AJ
When will the class of 1978 be finished on this site. There are no school photos of my class of 1978. Also, are there any high school band photos from 1973 to 1978 to put on this site too ? Can you get information on Where are the high school teachers now ? There were alot of really good teachers in Midland, would they also be included in this site ? Thank you, Lorraine Gutierrez DeNardis
Just want to say hello to those I haven't seen in years. That includes about everyone. Hope to be back in Midland in July. prelich@verizon.net
